Windermere - Cumming, GA
by Eric Ferguson
Background Of Course:A Davis Love III signature course with strategically placed sand traps water, and large, fast greens. The course recently when to a full private membership, however, the rates are low and the course is wonderful.
Setting Up Your Round:
Now that Windermere is a private golf course, it's tougher for the average joe to play a round here. If you can get on with a member, the greens fees are relatively inexpensive. Especially for such a nice course.
When You Arrive:
Everyone at Windermere is there to make your golf round worth while. From the guys in teh pro shop to the cart girl, Windermere is a great golf experience. A fully stocked pro shop and a generous driving range add to the Windermere charm.
Hole You'll Love:
No. 10: This is a tricky hole because you cannot see the green, but, hit your drive over the sand trap and you could find yourself in a very good position. I like hole No. 9 as well because it's a beautiful hole with huge bunkers a large green and that thick, Links style grass down the left sid of the hole. This whole is par or birdie material if you can avoid the enormous greenside bunker.
Hole You'll Hate:
Hole 13 Par 4: This hole does not look very tough in the tee box, but if you go to far right, a sand trap the size of Lake Michigan awaits. The fairway is slightly uphill to an ample sized green with a bunker on the left. Take par and run!
Summary Of Course:
This course is challenging yet forgiving if you don't play over your head. Take what the course gives you and don't be too aggressive or Windermere wil bear it's teeth and bite. The course is well taken care of with layout that is worth playing at least once. One of the best courses I've played in this area.
